At Vinventions, sustainability is not just a guiding principle—it’s rooted in everything we do. Since our inception, we’ve been committed to reducing our environmental impact while delivering high-quality wine closure solutions. This dedication has led us to pioneer numerous advancements in the industry, from eliminating cork taint to introducing closures made from renewable and recycled materials. Here’s a look at our key environmental milestones that showcase our ongoing journey towards a more sustainable future.
1999: Inception of NOMACORC
Our journey began in 1999 with the development of NOMACORC, the first closure to offer zero taint and consistent wine performance. By avoiding wine spoilage, we not only enhanced wine quality but also reduced waste, positively contributing to lowering the wine industry’s environmental impact.
2006: Lighter Closures with Better Aging Performance
In 2006, we introduced the second generation of NOMACORC closures, which were 20% lighter and offered improved aging performance. By reducing the weight of our closures, we have been able to minimize the environmental impact associated with their production and transportation.
2008: Pioneering Carbon Footprint Studies
Understanding the importance of measuring our environmental impact, we conducted one of the industry’s first carbon footprint studies in 2008. This analysis highlighted the need to move away from fossil-based raw materials, setting the stage for our future sustainability initiatives.
2010–2012: Transition to Renewable Energy and Materials
By 2010, we transitioned to using 100% renewable electricity in our operations. In 2012, we began incorporating sustainable and renewable raw materials, derived from sugarcane, into our products. This led to the creation of NOMACORC Select Green, the 1st closure made using these renewable materials.
2013: Launch of NOMACORC Green Line and First CSR Report
The successful launch of the NOMACORC Green Line in 2013 represented a significant milestone for our company, as we became the first closure company to offer a certified net zero carbon footprint full range of closures. To guarantee transparency and accountability, we also published our 1st Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report in the same year, increasing awareness of our environmental impact and identifying areas for improvement.
2015: Expansion into Screwcaps and Strengthening Recycling Programs
In 2015, we expanded our product range to include screw caps, providing customers with another recyclable solution that also promotes zero fault and zero waste. We also strengthened our Private Collection Programs, which were initiated in 2012, by partnering with France Cancer and Agir Cancer Gironde, associations dedicated to collecting and sorting closures in the market to finance research programs against cancer.
2017: Launch of the SÜBR micro-natural closures
Continuing our commitment to innovation, we launched SÜBR in 2017, the world’s first polyurethane-free and taint-free micro-natural closure. This closure combines the best of natural look and technology, using a biodegradable binder without polyurethane glue, further reducing our environmental impact.
2021: Introduction of NOMACORC Blue Line
In 2021, we introduced the NOMACORC Blue Line, a closure made using 50% of recycled plastics. This product addresses end-of-life management and waste reduction, contributing to a circular economy while guaranteeing excellence in performance and oxygen management.
2022: Net Zero Plastic to Nature Certification and Launch of NOMACORC Ocean
Our commitment to sustainability was further recognized in 2022 when the NOMACORC Blue Line received the Net Zero Plastic to Nature certification from South Pole. For every ton of plastic used, an equal amount is permanently removed from the environment. We also launched NOMARCORC Ocean, the world’s first closure made using recycled Ocean Bound Plastic (OBP), contributing to the reduction of marine pollution.
2023: Reaffirming Our Commitments
In 2023, the NOMACORC Blue Line received the Net Zero Plastic to Nature certification for the second consecutive year, partnering with Second Life to mitigate plastic pollution. We also confirmed the net zero carbon footprint of the NOMACORC Green Line through a new carbon footprint study conducted in accordance with ISO standard 14067:2018. Additionally, we launched NOMACORC Pops, the first net zero carbon footprint closure for sparkling wines, offering reliable performance and sustainability.
2024: 11th CSR Report Published
Looking ahead, we’re excited to publish our 11th CSR report in 2024. This report details our ongoing efforts and achievements in sustainability, reinforcing our commitment to environmental stewardship and transparent communication with our stakeholders.
