In 2023, Vinventions entered into a partnership with Second Life, a social enterprise specialising in plastic waste collection and recycling along the coastlines of Southeast Asia. We are now entering our third year. Here is the balance sheet, in verified figures.
Second Life: who they are and why this partnership
Second Life has been operating since 2020 in remote coastal areas where plastic waste accumulates due to the absence of collection infrastructure. The organisation collects both high-value plastics and difficult-to-recycle materials, those that would otherwise end up on beaches or in open dumpsites.
Since 2020, Second Life has collected more than 6,400 tonnes of plastic, recycled locally and reintroduced into the circular economy. It is the world’s first project certified under the Verra Plastic Waste Reduction Standard, the international standard that guarantees full traceability of every tonne.
Vinventions chose this partnership deliberately. Our closures are sold predominantly in Europe and their end-of-life happens there. We chose to act in Southeast Asia because that is where the need is most critical and where every tonne collected has the greatest impact.
3 years of results, in figures
- 135 tonnes of plastic collected and processed (2023–2025 cumulative)
- The equivalent of 34 Asian elephants, or more than 9 million water bottles
- More than USD 27,000 paid directly to local collectors and recyclers

Thailand: the heart of the operation
Second Life’s main operations are in the provinces of Krabi and Trang, on the islands of the Andaman Sea. In 2025: 989 tonnes collected, by a network of 1,329 independent collectors, 52% of whom are women. Many are housewives or former hotel workers who lost their jobs during the pandemic and for whom collection represents a real, flexible source of income.
Vinventions supports this organisation and the conditions in which it works. We are not in direct contact with these communities. We are proud that every Blue Line closure sold contributes, in a verifiable way, to paying them.
2025: Second Life expands to Indonesia
In 2025, Second Life launched operations in the province of East Kalimantan, Indonesia, the world’s fifth-largest contributor to ocean plastic pollution (IUCN). Within a few months: 16 villages, 107 collectors, 37 tonnes collected in an area where no collection existed before.
What this partnership means for us
Funding Second Life means acting where the impact per tonne collected is greatest, with an organisation whose method is verifiable and whose data is published.
