At Vinventions, sustainability is more than a commitment, it is a driving force behind our innovations and our actions beyond the value chain. In 2022, we took a major step forward by achieving Net Zero Plastic to Nature certification for our NOMACORC Blue Line for the first time, a recognition we have proudly renewed every year since.

But achieving real impact means going beyond measuring and reducing our own footprint. It requires addressing plastic pollution where it matters most, where waste management is lacking and oceans are at risk.
This is why, in 2023, we partnered with Second Life, a social enterprise dedicated to cleaning Southeast Asia’s coastlines while supporting local communities.

As we celebrate two years of collaboration, we reflect on the shared progress and positive impact this partnership has created.

Reducing Marine Pollution

Second Life operates in remote coastal regions and islands, collecting and recycling not only high-value plastics but also mid- and low-value materials that would otherwise remain abandoned on beaches or in landfills.

  • In 2024 alone, Vinventions financed the collection of 56 tons of marine plastic waste in Thailand, helping prevent these materials from leaking into the environment. Since the beginning of our partnership in 2023, this contribution amounts to 106 tons of plastic collected and processed, the equivalent of 7 million water bottles or 26 Asian elephants in weight.
  • Overall, Second Life has collected 5,413 metric tons of plastic since its inception in 2020, with about 95% recycled locally into new materials reintroducing plastic into the circular economy. The remaining fraction is either stored for future processing (4%) or used for energy recovery (1%).

Supporting Coastal Communities

Beyond cleaning up oceans, Second Life creates economic opportunities for local populations. The project provides financial incentives to collectors for the collection and transport of ocean plastics, ensuring that waste management becomes a source of income rather than a burden.

  • Thanks to Vinventions’ support, over 21,000 USD was distributed to local collectors and recyclers in 2024 alone, and, since 2020, more than 1 million USD has been generated through this initiative overall.
  • The project’s social footprint is significant: in 2024, it positively impacted 5,974 people, and the overall impact since launch has exceeded 7,000 people. The collector network continues to grow, reaching 1,212 members in 2024, with 64% being women, many of whom are mothers or grandmothers supporting their families.
  • Training is another cornerstone of Second Life’s model. In 2024, 1,126 people received training in waste sorting, waste management, and waste material handling.

Certified Transparency and Traceability

Second Life is the world’s first project certified under the “Verra Plastic Waste Reduction Standard”. This commitment to accountability is reinforced by the use of blockchain technology, which ensures complete and tamper-proof traceability. Every step, from identifying collectors and measuring plastic volumes to geolocating collection sites, recording transport, and confirming recycling, is securely logged on the blockchain. This level of transparency guarantees that every kilogram collected is verified and truly reintroduced into the circular economy.

A More Sustainable Future Together

This partnership with Second Life is a fundamental pillar of our plastic management strategy, demonstrating our proactive and transparent commitment since 2022. We are immensely proud of the progress made over the past two years and look forward to continuing and amplifying our impact in the years to come.
