Vinventions has been awarded the “Net Zero Plastic to Nature” label for its Blue Line range of closures for the second year running. This certification underlines the company’s commitment to responsible plastic management, and once again establishes Vinventions as a benchmark for environmental responsibility within the closures industry. The label guarantees that a quantity of plastic equivalent to that used in the Blue Line range is permanently removed from nature, thus ensuring that no plastic from this range contributes to polluting the environment.
Plastic footprint assessment
The first essential step in obtaining the label is to measure the plastic footprint. This was carried out by South Pole following the methodology established in 2022. This approach, aligned with the Corporate Guidelines for Plastic Stewardship, ensures transparency and reliability in the measurement of environmental impacts.
Calculation results 2023
The calculation of the plastic footprint of the NOMACORC Blue Line includes the total quantity of plastics used for this range of closures (manufacturing and marketing), as well as end-of-life plastic waste management scenarios in key markets. In 2023, the plastic footprint of the Blue Line range amounted to 342 tonnes, of which 56 tonnes were identified as potentially poorly managed in destination countries. Concrete measures to reduce and compensate for this share of poorly managed waste have therefore been implemented.
Internal initiatives
For over 10 years, Vinventions has been implementing initiatives to collect its own corks, in partnership with local players such as the France Cancer and Agir Cancer Gironde associations in France. These associations use the funds obtained from buying back corks to finance cancer research. In some cases, Vinventions corks account for almost a third of all corks collected annually. In 2023, this initiative collected 80 tonnes of corks, reducing the equivalent of 6 tonnes of poorly managed waste.
The Net Zero Plastic to Nature label
In addition to private collection, to obtain the “Net Zero Plastic to Nature” label, Vinventions has committed to offsetting the equivalent of 50 tonnes of poorly managed plastic. To achieve this, Vinventions has entered into a partnership with Second Life, a social enterprise dedicated to collecting and recycling plastic waste in the oceans, and supporting coastal communities where waste management is often deficient.Winning the “Net Zero Plastic to Nature” label for the second year running testifies to Vinventions’ ongoing commitment to environmental protection.
